Caspian Energy (CE): Your Excellency, before we turn to the matters of Latvian-Azerbaijani relations, could you kindly share with us your journey into diplomacy? What inspired you to pursue this path, and what experiences have prepared you for your current mission here in Azerbaijan?
Edgars Skuja, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Azerbaijan: First of all, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to share the information about Latvia and Azerbaijan.
When you ask about my appointment, I should say that there was a period in my career when I worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, and I was responsible for the Latvian-Azerbaijani bilateral relations. I had a wonderful opportunity to visit Azerbaijan and participate in several high-level meetings as part of the delegations. I really enjoyed visiting Azerbaijan, so when I was asked about my view on my nomination as Ambassador to your country, I was delighted and agreed immediately.
In general, I started my career at the Foreign Ministry in 1993, and this is my sixth appointment as Ambassador. I arrived in Baku directly from Brussels in September 2023, having completed my diplomatic mission to NATO.
