Sustainable development in the energy sector
Zaur Mustafayev, Founder of ENERMUS CJSC

Caspian Energy (CE): Mr. Mustafayev, ENERMUS marks its 10th anniversary this year. How would you describe the company’s journey since 2016?

Zaur Mustafayev, Founder of ENERMUS CJSC: When ENERMUS was founded in January 2016, our ambition was to operate in one of the most specialised and demanding fields of the national economy – the gas sector. We began with the sale of household and industrial gas equipment, and within a short period we organised the local manufacturing of cabinet-type gas pressure regulating stations and electricity-free pneumatic odorant units. In 2017 we obtained the licence for construction-installation works in the gas sector, which allowed us to deliver projects on a turnkey basis, from design through to commissioning. Over a decade we have evolved from an equipment supplier into a full-cycle engineering company – and that transformation is the result of a consistent commitment to safety, technological innovation and reliability.

CE: Local production and international partnerships are both central to your strategy. How do you balance the two?

Zaur Mustafayev: We see them not as alternatives, but as two sides of the same approach – bringing world-class quality to Azerbaijan while strengthening domestic industrial capacity. ENERMUS cooperates with leading manufacturers from Italy, Germany, the United States, Türkiye and the Russian Federation, and serves as the official partner of Italy’s Cavagna Group, a global benchmark in gas control technology. At the same time, our own production lines for cabinet-type gas regulating stations and pneumatic odorant units allow us to localise critical components, optimise project costs, and respond to clients with greater flexibility. This combination of international engineering standards and local manufacturing is, in our view, the most sustainable model for developing the country’s gas infrastructure.

CE: ENERMUS has been actively involved in the restoration of the liberated territories. What does this work mean for the company?

Zaur Mustafayev: Participating in the rebuilding of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur is, for us, far more than a commercial undertaking – it is a matter of national responsibility. We approach these projects with particular care, because the objective is not simply to install a gas line, but to build a system that will serve reliably for decades. Every metre of pipeline and every piece of equipment we install on these lands is an investment in their future. We apply the latest technologies, high-quality materials and international safety standards, and our ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications provide a structured framework for delivering this commitment in practice.

CE: In 2024, ENERMUS co-organised the first Caspian Gas Industry Forum. How do you see the company’s role beyond engineering?

Zaur Mustafayev: Leadership in our industry is not measured solely by the projects you deliver; it is also measured by your contribution to the dialogue that shapes the sector’s future. Together with Caspian Energy Club, we organised the first international Caspian Gas Industry Forum, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the green transition, innovative technologies in the gas industry, international safety standards and the agenda set by COP29 hosted by Azerbaijan. Looking ahead, our vision extends beyond the national market: we intend to expand step by step into the CIS and Central Asian markets, where the modernisation of energy infrastructure offers significant long-term opportunities for Azerbaijani engineering expertise.
