Caspian Energy (CE): Mr. Oettinger, the European economy is at stage of recession today. What is the impact of this situation on the EU’s energy sector that requires huge investments?

Günther Oettinger, European Commissioner for Energy: All tough the available amount of public money which could be spent on energy infrastructure tends to decrease; we all know that the large bulk of money needs to come from private investors anyway. And there is enough money around to be invested. The investment conditions need however to be attractive in the energy sector. This requires a clear regulatory frame, speeding up of permitting processes, better planning and coordination of what is needed in terms of infrastructure and the like.
