SOCAR Energy Georgia guaranteeing energy security of Georgia

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is one of the most perspective oil companies in the world, and prospects of socio-economic development of Azerbaijan are associated with the activity thereof.

SOCAR opened its first representative office in Georgia in 2006. The key objective of the Representation is protection of interests of the economic activity that means building an adequate environment for implementation of projects of the Company and coordination of strengths of the parties concerned. The Company cooperates with the public authorities, conducts negotiations with legal entities and is engaged in charitable work.    

For the period 2007-2012 the Representation of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic invested more than 20 million USD in Georgia. Such investments cover the following:

  • Repair of schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, outpatient clinics, hospitals, mini stadiums;
  • Construction of roads and bridges;
  • Rehabilitation of water supply systems;
  • Rehabilitation and modernization of public gardens, parks and historical monuments;
  • Support of children’s homes, sports federations;
  • Donations in religious foundations;
  • Education in institutions of higher education, implementation of scholarship programs, treatment financing.

Interests of the Company SOCAR in Georgia is its subsidiary SOCAR Energy Georgia Ltd established in 2006. The key scope of the Company’s activity is wholesale and retail sale of oil products in Georgia, construction and development of chain of service stations under the brand SOCAR, as well as construction of new and rehabilitation of the already existing gas pipelines.

SOCAR Energy Georgia Ltd occupies the leading position in the energetic sector of Georgia and serves as an essential warranty of energy security of Georgia.  Since 2006 the Company has been the top taxpayer in Georgia with total assignments to the state budget of circa   850   mln. GEL. 

In its turn, SOCAR Energy Georgia Ltd established 3 subsidiaries, in particular, SOCAR Georgia Petroleum Ltd, SOCAR Georgia Gas Ltd and SOCAR Georgia Security Ltd.

Having commenced its activity at the Georgian oil products market from 2007 SOCAR Georgia Petroleum Ltd imports more than 15,000 tons of petrol, 20,000 tons of diesel fuel and 5,000 tons of other oil products on monthly basis. For the period  of its activity the Company has imported more than  2.300.000 mln tons of oil products to Georgia, thus, having taken 50% share in the country’s import. The Company’s share in implementation of oil products wholesale transaction is  59 %, and 41 % in retail transaction. 

The Company owns 21 Service Centers which actively and efficiently have been implementing the project ENERGY CARD enabling its customers to pay utility charges by the bonuses assigned.

Currently the Company owns 99 petrol service stations and intends to increase this figure up to 120 through active development by the end of 2013.  Please note construction of a multifunctional cluster in Urbnisi Village, near Gori City. Design and construction of the similar multifunctional facility will start in Chumateli Village, Khashuri Region.  In the very center of Batumi City construction works of a unique architectural cluster, including the restaurant McDonalds, McDrive and the petrol station SOCAR are completed. 

In 2010 SOCAR Georgia Petroleum Ltd, was awarded an International Quality Certificate   ISO 9001 – Quality Management System.

The Company SOCAR Georgia Gas Ltd, the key business activity of which is natural gas supply, imports and sells it to social and commercial customers.  The Company carries out essential activities related to construction of new and rehabilitation of the existing gas pipelines in settlements of different regions of Georgia.  The Company has been implementing the large-scale gasification program practically in all regions of the country such as Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida and Kvemo Kartli, Ajara, Guria, Imereti, Samegrelo. In 2012 the Company SOCAR Georgia Gas Ltd build 2300 km of gas pipelines and provided more than 160 000 customers with gas on the entire territory of Georgia.  In 2010 SOCAR Georgia Gas ltd, was awarded International Quality Certificate   ISO 9001:2008 for import, sale, distribution of natural gas, gasification and operation of gas distribution networks, being the first gasification company in Georgia which received the aforesaid Quality Certificate.
