Caspian Energy (CE): Mr. Abdildayev, what major results could you mention following the outcomes of the recent 12th summit held by member countries of Economic Cooperation Organization in Baku?
Erlan Abdildayev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic: Assessing the activity of ECO and determining the prospects for future, it is necessary to note that countries of the region have risen to new heights and reached the necessary level of development that provides prerequisites for efficiency growth of ECO. This was the topic mainly discussed at the 12th summit of the ECO member countries arranged on October 16, 2012 in Baku. According to the procedural rules of ECO, the presidency in this organization passed to the Azerbaijani side. President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was elected the Chairman of the 12th summit. All member-countries admitted the necessity of proceeding with integration and cooperation for ensuring their balanced and sustainable development in modern global economic and political conditions. Most of the member countries expressed support to the idea on reformation of the organization, necessity of activation of ECO’s work in all directions of life activity. The summit emphasized the necessity of expansion of cooperation between ECO and other international organizations and financial institutes in order to use technical experience and means for further ECO’s priority projects promoted. In general, the 12th summit of ECO demonstrated adherence of all member countries to further development of regional economic cooperation within the framework of ECO.
