Caspian Energy (CE): Mr. Ambassador, the UK now occupies the important niche in the European vector of the external policy of the Caspian Sea states. How would you characterize the current level of bilateral relations of the UK with the Caspian states, in particular with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan?
David Moran, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Kazakhstan: The UK has a good level of bilateral relations with Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan. These relations are based on years of cooperation and friendship. One of the key areas of our bilateral relationship is trade, both inward investment from the UK into the region and also exports from the region back to the UK. But trade is merely one part of a much deeper relationship and we also work closely with all three nations on political, human rights, defence, and international relation issues.
