New power plant commissioned

On June 24, a ceremony was held in Mingachevir to mark the opening of the "8 November" Power Plant.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, addressed the event. He noted that the 1,880-megawatt plant will further strengthen Mingachevir's status as an energy hub, not only for Azerbaijan but for the entire South Caucasus.

Currently, over 40 percent of the country's electricity is generated in Mingachevir.

“Over the past 20 years, we have virtually built Azerbaijan's energy system from scratch,” the President emphasized.

In 2018, the reconstruction of the "Azerbaijan" Thermal Power Plant began. Currently, the generation capacity of the "Azerbaijan" Power Plant is 1,800 megawatts, the capacity of the "8 November" Power Plant is 1,880 megawatts, and the capacity of the hydroelectric power station exceeds 400 megawatts.

Italian and Chinese companies made a significant contribution to the construction of this plant.

“Italy is Azerbaijan's number one trading partner, and China also holds a leading position among our country’s trade partners,” the Head of State said.
